Giving or receiving a token of esteem is one way of fostering business relationships.  As a general rule of thumb, the gesture should be appropriate.  Appropriate would mean being void of:

• an intent to corrupt; or

• an improper solicitation for gratification.

When providing or accepting business courtesies & hospitality, ensure that the gesture: 

1. is permitted by the local law,

2. has a nominal value,

3. is given or received openly & transparently,

4. is accurately recorded in the books, 

5. is never in the form of cash, and

6. is not carried out through an intermediary party to funnel a bribe.
